Intent
As a Catholic academy we teach relationships education in line with the model policy statement for Relationship and Sex Education produced by the Diocesan Department of Religious Education in the Archdiocese of Birmingham.
Our RHE curriculum aims to provide children with learning experiences to develop an understanding and appreciation of themselves and others.
We use schemes that are recommended by the Catholic Education Service to facilitate our RSE and PSHE implementation.
Implementation
Ten Ten ‘Life to the Full’
Children study RHE modules following a cycle of ‘Created and Loved by God’; ‘Created to Love Others’ and ‘Created to live in Community’. Every year the curriculum builds on previous vocabulary and knowledge from the previous modules.
Our PSHE Plan shows in black all the Ten:Ten Catholic Relationships Lessons covered each half term.
The Life to the Full scheme and modules can be found here.
Personal Relationships & Sex Education
Parents, at certain points in your child’s primary years, we will consult with you regarding our Relationship and Sex education. Click here to read our Personal Relationships & Sex Education Policy.
You will be invited to a briefing whereby our RHE Coordinator will share the full resources and lesson plans with you. Parents have the right to withdraw their child from these lessons in line with our policy. Our ‘Personal Relationships & Sex Education Policy’ is reviewed annually with our Local Governing Body. Please speak to your child’s class teacher or Mrs McHale if you have any questions or comments.
