Modern Foreign Languages at St Teresa’s
We have chosen to teach French in Y3-6.
Our intention is for pupils to learn the French language, develop fluency and prepare them for KS3 and KS4 languages at their chosen secondary schools.
Additionally, our MFL curriculum aims to develop children for future opportunities in French speaking countries around the world. The values of the Gospel underpin all aspects of school life at St Teresa’s. Aspiration is a key word at our school and by aspiring to be successful young adults, we believe speaking a second or third language will allow pupils to achieve and be successful in life.
The aims of our language education is to foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen
their understanding of the world.
Only excellence is good enough at St Teresa’s! We are using our curriculum drivers of: Aspiration, Knowledge of the World, Communication, Preparation for Life, Community to achieve this.
By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils will be able to express their ideas
and thoughts in another language and can understand and respond to French speaking and writing (at an age appropriate level).
Languages such as Punjabi, Hindi, Polish are also celebrated at St Teresa’s. May of our pupils speak these or other languages as well as English every day which is a talent beyond the average!
Implementation
We use Linguascope beginner and intermediate level planning and objectives to teach French in line with the primary National Curriculum. The scheme is progressive, builds on what pupils have previously learned and scaffolds learning with interactivity with visual content.
