Royal Correspondence

14th November 2023Ms T Picken
We were amazed to receive a special letter this week from His Majesty King Charles! Last year’s Year 6 class wrote to him in May, congratulating him on his coronation and shared their wishes for his future reign. They shared their concerns over rising energy and food costs, and their concerns about the environment and Climate Change.
We will be sending a copy to all our previous students later this term.
Well done to the 22-23 Year 6 cohort.

Parent Phonic Workshop

12th October 2023Ms T Picken

Parents worked alongside pupils in Reception and Year 1 in our parent Phonics Session. They learnt how the Read Write Inc Phonics programme is structured and how to support their child at home. The presentation slides are available here for anyone who was unable to attend. Links to our parent page reading resources, READ WRITE INC pronunciation guide and free books to use on children’s tablets can all be found at this link.

Thank you so much to all the parents that attended the workshop and well done children for participating in all the activities. It is a beautiful gift to be able to see a young child learn to read and become lost in the world of stories. Please speak to us in school if you require any further help or information.

National Poetry Day!

11th October 2023Ms T Picken

We celebrated National Poetry Day with a host of activities. Parents joined us in our reading and writing poetry workshops, where we produced amazing poems on this year’s theme ‘Refuge’. It was great to see pupils working alongside their parents and other children in different year groups.

Pupils in Year 2 & 3 visited The Grand Theatre to meet an author – Benji Davies. They heard all about the process of writing and listened to him read his new books! Pupils were surprised with their own copy of his latest book!!

In the afternoon, pupils learnt a poem and performed it to other classes. They focused on their speech and language skills as well as their performance skills.

Children’s Mental Health Week

10th February 2023Ms T Picken

Students took part in Children’s Mental Health Week by undertaking activities throughout the week.

This year’s theme is ‘Let’s Connect’. Let’s Connect is about making meaningful connections for all, during Children’s Mental Health Week – and beyond. People thrive in communities, and this connection is vital for our wellbeing.

When we have healthy connections – to family, friends and others – this can support our mental health and our sense of wellbeing. And when our need for rewarding social connections is not met, we can sometimes feel isolated and lonely – which can have a negative impact on our mental health.

For Children’s Mental Health Week 2023, we’re encouraging people to connect with others in healthy, rewarding and meaningful ways.

Throughout the week, students looked at Mindfulness techniques and created artwork which connected together to create a whole school piece of art. The school council held a cupcake sale to raise money for CAFOD to make connections to those less fortunate. On Friday pupils enjoyed yoga sessions, learning strategies to stay calm and raise awareness for looking after their body and mind.
