Book Week Author Visit- A.F. Harrold

2nd March 2021Ms T Picken

Today, we were very excited to meet the author A.F. Harrold, in our virtual visit. Mr Harrold has written many books that we have in school, including Greta Zago, Fizzlebert Stump and a range of poetry books.

We heard A.F Harrold read and perform a number of his poems which captured the children’s imagination. The children’s laughter could be heard through the school corridors as he performed one his favourite poem by the scottish poet Edwin Morgan.

The children are now inspired to write and perform their own poetry, which they will do later this week.

World Book Day- Thursday 4th March

28th February 2021Ms T Picken

World Book Day – Thursday 4th March. We will be wearing our Pyjamas (not costumes) at school or at home to celebrate this year’s World Book Day theme ‘share a story’. Children will be asked to share a story with the people they live with and with each other in school.

We have planned a number of exciting activities including joining together wearing our Pyjamas (dressing gown too if you wish!) on Thursday 4th March. We will ask pupils to make a den on this day where they can get comfortable and snuggle up with a good book.

We will also be sharing a video of our question time with a famous author A.F Harrold with everyone too!

We know how important reading is to help children succeed in education. A child who reads 20 minutes per day will cover 1.8million words per year and is likely to achieve higher than 90% of their peers in primary and secondary school. Read, read, read and some more!

Virtual Book Club

28th February 2021Ms T Picken

This week, Mrs McHale had a great Virtual Book Club with the children in KS2.

The first book they read was ‘The Coronavirus Kid’ by Olive Jamieson. They continued to read the next few chapters which were very exciting! The children are thoroughly enjoying this book and can relate to the thoughts and feelings of the character.

The second book they read was called ‘We Are All Greta’. Mrs McHale introduced the children to Greta Thunberg before inspiring them by her story.

We can’t wait to read more books in our club next week!
