St Teresa’s Live Simply Award!

We are thrilled to share that the pupils and staff here at St Teresa’s Primary Academy have officially achieved the LiveSimply award. This award confirms our commitment to living simply, sustainably, and in solidarity with our global family and those in need within our own community.

Championed by the international aid charity CAFOD, this award recognises the hard work we have put into planning and implementing faith-inspired actions that care for people and the planet.

Our Journey Our LiveSimply journey has involved our whole school community in some truly impactful activities:
Living Sustainably: Our newly established “Eco Wardens” and Eco Council have been busy working to improve our school’s sustainability. We launched monthly litter picks in our local area and set up a crisp recycling scheme. We also promoted a “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” culture by organising pre-loved uniform sales and toy and book giveaways.

Living in Solidarity: We worked with the RMC to support new arrivals to our city, providing essentials like uniforms and board games for children currently living in hotels. Our staff also contributed by choosing to purchase CAFOD “World Gifts” with their end-of-term collections instead of buying gifts for each other.

Living Simply: Locally, our pupils reached out to the vulnerable by carol singing in care homes, writing letters of gratitude to NHS workers, and supporting local charities like the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd.

What Our Community Says One of our pupils from the Eco Council shared their thoughts on the experience:

“Taking part in the LiveSimply award made me realise that small changes, like recycling crisps or picking up litter, make a big difference to our world. It felt good to help people in our city who are new and might be lonely.”

Mrs. Rebecca Wilcox, who led our LiveSimply journey, said:
“We are incredibly proud of how our pupils have embraced the mission to serve others. From the Big Lent Walk to our pop-up pantry, seeing the children take ownership of caring for God’s creation and their neighbours has been inspiring. It has empowered them with lifelong skills and a deeper understanding of their duty to work for the common good.”

We also received a wonderful message from Siobhan Farnell, CAFOD’s LiveSimply Coordinator for Schools:

“Congratulations to the pupils and staff on achieving the LiveSimply award. Their actions are wonderful examples of caring for others and our common home and we wish them well as they continue to live simply, sustainably and in solidarity with communities around the world experiencing poverty.”

We want to thank everyone—staff, pupils, and parents—who supported our Big Lent Walk and other initiatives. We look forward to continuing this important work!St Teresa’s Live Simply Award!
